In this article you get a brief walk-through to creating maps in Newscoop for the Ushahidi Cooker. For more detailed information, please visit the manuals section on Sourcefabric. You can also try to add some maps and test the feed with your Ushahidi at our test installation of Newscoop with Ushahidi Cooker.

In order to create categories and maps, follow the following steps:

  • To create a new category (like "Hospitals") add a new section with that name.
  • Creating a city map in such a section, use the article type "map_static".
  • The name of the article is the city.
  • Add a point on the map by clicking on the map.

Then:

  • click "edit" on the left and
  • fill in label in the "basic" tab and
  • fill in the description in the "text" tab (see image below).


label link and short description at the "basic" tab are optional.

You should give the map a name at the top of the popup window.

Save the map view after zooming in and out and moving the map to provide the overview you want.

Attention: Ushahidi does not display all information in layers which can be saved in the map and exportet in the KML feed.

You can use the KML feed for other mapping services as well.
